この計画は、ひとつの家屋を「ゲストハウス」と「住宅」という性質の異なる二つの空間へと再構成することから始まりました。公共性が高く一時的に滞在するゲストハウスと、家族が長く暮らす私的な住宅では、求められる空間の質や時間のあり方が大きく異なります。

This renovation reconfigures a single house into two distinct spaces: a guesthouse and a private residence. While the guesthouse serves as a public, temporary place to stay, the residence is a long-term living space for a family. Each requires a different quality of space and a different sense of time.

私たちはそれぞれの特性を丁寧に読み取りながら、もとの住宅が持つ素材感や記憶を損なわないことを重視しました。ゲストハウスでは、宮大工による手仕事の価値を主役とし、構造や意匠の力強さを引き立てつつ、長期滞在にも対応できる機能性を備えています。住宅部分では、職人の仕事を尊重しながら、現代の生活に適した使いやすさと、家具を含めた空間全体の調和を整えました。

Carefully considering these differences, we focused on preserving the original material character and memory of the house. In the guesthouse, the craftsmanship of traditional Japanese master carpenters is treated as the central element, while modern functions support comfortable long-term stays. In the residential area, traditional craftsmanship is respected while adapting the space to contemporary living and harmonizing it with the owner’s furniture.

この建物は「建てられた家」ではなく、「細工された家」です。土地の記憶と職人の技を受け継ぎながら、公共と私的、滞在と生活を静かにつなぐ空間を目指しました。

This is not a house that was simply built, but one that was carefully crafted. By inheriting the memory of the land and the spirit of craftsmanship, the project gently connects public and private life, staying and living.
